The report from the End Child Poverty Coalition has revealed that in some areas of the UK (Soho and Jewellery Quarter / Ladywood included) more than half of children are living in poverty.
Gareth Hardy, Liberal Democrat campaigner for Soho and Jewellery Quarter said:
“This is yet another report showing how the Theresa May’s government, and the local Labour authority in Birmingham, are failing to protect the most vulnerable in society.
“The government is running around trying to deliver a highly-damaging Hard Brexit, and have buried their head in the sand. Labour-run Birmingham council seems to want to blame the Tories for everything, taking no accountability for their own decisions”
“Half of the top 6 worst locations for child poverty in the UK are in Birmingham areas – with Ladywood being second, with over half of children showing as in poverty. This is a disgrace and cannot be allowed to continue.
In government, Liberal Democrats delivered the largest increase in early years school funding – pupil premium and expanded free school meal provision to help the youngest and poorest”
“These remain our key priorities. The Liberal Democrats are needed both locally and nationally, now more than ever, to continue our work to protect the must vulnerable in our society – starting with our children.”
